Celebrate Caen's 1000th anniversary!
In 2025, Caen celebrates its millennium with a rich and diverse program, featuring over 250 events to highlight its rich heritage!
Here are the main highlights not to be missed:
Start of the festivities
Inauguration of the Millennium (March 20-22, 2025)
The festivities begin at the Château de Caen, where the ramparts serve as the backdrop for a monumental fresco projected by artist B959. A fireworks display will also enliven the Château grounds.
History Days (March 21-28, 2025)
A week dedicated to exploring the history of Caen, with conferences, exhibitions and interactive workshops.
Parades and maritime life
The Opera Parade (May 9, 2025)
A large urban parade strolling over 4 km through the city, retracing Caen's history through poetic and artistic performances, bringing together local talent and international companies.
Maritime Weekend (June 27-29, 2025)
Caen, a city that has always looked to the sea, will celebrate its coastline with events featuring water and boats, including the presence of the legendary ship Belem.
Water shows and digital journeys
Aquanauts - Water show (September 19-21, 2025)
An innovative aquatic show will be held in the Bassin Saint-Pierre, combining artistic performances and cutting-edge technologies.
Digital art trail in the city (December 2025)
To round off the year, a digital art trail will illuminate the city, offering visitors an immersive, futuristic experience.
In addition, throughout the year, an outdoor art trail will be installed, showcasing creations by international artists such as Vincent Leroy, Olafur Eliasson, Georges Rousse and Julien Creuzet. Innovative art-science projects, such as “Art, well-being, brain: an essential encounter” and “Millenial Academy”, will enrich the program, illustrating Caen's dynamism and creativity.
Lastly, accredited projects from local associations will address a variety of themes, including Caen's history, architectural heritage, gastronomy, biodiversity, water and nature in the city.
